“The bronze vessel Rabbits, Rabbits was my first attempt to merge my bronze sculpture with a vessel form. The reason I chose the rabbit was for two reasons, one was that I had grown up running and playing in the pastures with them and two, later in life, I discovered the Native American ‘Mimbres culture’ and developed a deep love and appreciation of their beautiful black-on-white pottery. The rabbits on my vessel are similar to some of the rabbit symbols on the Mimbres pottery. The Jackrabbit on the top of the lid is as I remember it running across the fields. The designs on the vessel are designs of my own.”– Jammey
