"This piece is a commission for a veterans memorial in Star Valley, WY. The title is 'In Rememberance.' The young marine is kneeling in a moment of silence as he is holding the dog tags of a loved one that gave their life for our country. The life-size version will be kneeling in front of a battle cross.
"My model for this piece is a friend of mine, Corporal Steven Rubisch. He fought in Iraq during the second Gulf War. The dog tags that he will be holding are of his friend who died three days after arriving in Iraq from an IUD explosion. My understanding is that during one battle, Steven was shot in the arm after only ten minutes into the fight. He fought for another 10 hours with his platoon of 12 companions before they won against over 130 enemy combatants. One week later the medics were able to finally got around to surgically removing the bullet from his arm." --Gibby
