Orbs

Size: 14x11

I had gone to the Wildlife Center in Espanola and another raptor rescue in Santa Fe. I was looking to research a Great Horned Owl for a sculpture subject, after having seen several in the National Forest while riding last year. However, my attention was drawn to a little owl with a quiet, yet intriguing presence. The owl's eyes had an amazing depth of circular reflections, orbs within orbs. Though I went home with every intention of starting a Great Horned Owl, what came out of my hands, as if independent of me, was this wise little spirit. The owl sits on a cottonwood branch that I found around our ranch, notable because, though it had obviously died, had new buds growing from it - the cycle of life, continuous renewal.
