He graduated from university with an Arts degree in Economics and a Diploma in Education. He then taught high school and painted as a hobby\, but soon realized he wanted a career as an artist. \n“I’ve been pushing paint around for well over 40 years and still enjoy every moment of it- so it’s still a hobby\, I guess. My boyhood was spent exploring the rainforests of the Tweed Valley in Australia while stepping around snakes that basked in the midday sun. From 28 to 31\, I ‘taught’ myself to paint. It was the most frustrating period ever. I had no clue what I was doing and stubbornly sought no help whatsoever from anyone other than the deceased greats of the past.”\nHagan’s first art book on Australia came out about this time and he participated in many exhibitions from 1980 to 1988. In 1991 Hagan moved to America to paint the America’s Cup and while here plunged into thoroughbred horse racing and generally fell in love with the American West. \nRobert returned again to Australia in 1998 with his children\, the year his art book of paintings celebrating women and children titled\, “Cherished Moments”\, was published\, and began to play with the idea of video production. He was eventually able to combine his love of painting with his love of travel in several different TV series seen around the world. She sensitively captures their cultural identity\, whether indigenous or ranch life\, and celebrates them by preserving her observations through bronze. \nAnimals\, especially horses\, have been another source of inspiration. Since the purchase of her first horse in high school\, Star has been intrigued by the fluidity of line and mass of horse anatomy\, as well as by the animal’s fiery instincts. His subject matter has always been about wildlife and all of its beauty\, especially the big cats and hoofed animals of North America. In high school\, the Wildlife World Museum was just a bike ride from his home\, after winning an art competition he received a year’s membership and spent his free time admiring\, studying\, and sketching at the Museum. \nHis family moved to Arizona in 1983 where he started his career in Architecture and\, eventually\, into residential construction. Now after 30 years of commercial work he is concentrating on his own artwork. The illustration\, rendering\, and design have translated well into oil painting. The years of mastering values\, composition\, and drawing have been priceless. “My confidence grows with each canvas completed… fresh with a head full of ideas and a passionate yearning to turn loose my hands.” \nHis love of the west would magnify after meeting his wife. Spending summers in Colorado\, Montana\, and Idaho\, their son was a natural-born cowboy.
