DESCRIPTION:Meet renowned impressionist painter and international sensation\, Robert Hagan\, during the opening of his show “Wrangling the Sun” in Downtown Santa Fe\nFriday\, May 19th\n5 – 7:30 PM\nSee an impressive new collection of Robert Hagan’s most recent creations as you enjoy light bites\, refreshments\, and a beautiful Spring evening in the heart of Santa Fe. \nBorn in Murwillumbah\, New South Wales\, Australia\, Robert Hagan spent his youth in and around the beautiful Tweed Valley. He graduated from university with an Arts degree in Economics and a Diploma in Education. He then taught high school and painted as a hobby\, but soon realized he wanted a career as an artist. \n“I’ve been pushing paint around for well over 40 years and still enjoy every moment of it- so it’s still a hobby\, I guess. My boyhood was spent exploring the rainforests of the Tweed Valley in Australia while stepping around snakes that basked in the midday sun. From 28 to 31\, I ‘taught’ myself to paint. It was the most frustrating period ever. I had no clue what I was doing and stubbornly sought no help whatsoever from anyone other than the deceased greats of the past.”\nHagan’s first art book on Australia came out about this time and he participated in many exhibitions from 1980 to 1988. In 1991 Hagan moved to America to paint the America’s Cup and while here plunged into thoroughbred horse racing and generally fell in love with the American West. \nRobert returned again to Australia in 1998 with his children\, the year his art book of paintings celebrating women and children titled\, “Cherished Moments”\, was published\, and began to play with the idea of video production. He was eventually able to combine his love of painting with his love of travel in several different TV series seen around the world. Author of 7 books\, Robert Hagan was also the originator/Executive Producer and host of his travel & painting series\, “Splash of Color” which was licensed in 2010 to Discovery HD and shown internationally in several languages. \n \nView Robert Hagan's Artwork

DESCRIPTION:Narrie Toole is our featured artist in Santa Fe for October! Narrie (pronounced NAR-ee) Toole grew up near Manter\, KS and spent most of her life living on family farms and ranches in that area. Her many years spent working closely with horses\, cattle\, and myriad other “critters” shaped her life in a way that is clearly visible in her artwork today. While she no longer worries about calving in Winter or feeding the horses on Christmas morning\, her livelihood still depends on those animals now\, like it did then\, as they inspire her life as a full-time painter in the Mimbres Valley of New Mexico. \n \n“An Art degree from Kansas State University\, years of ranching\, both yearlings and cow calf\, have given me intimate knowledge of my subject material. I have always loved animals and have a deep affinity for them. I have been privileged to meet some incredibly interesting people and include them as subjects as well”

DESCRIPTION:Although not native American himself\, James Ayers is heralded as the painter of “Historic American Indian Culture”. Using Native American models and learning from them for decades\, James says\, “You might think gathering all my data for a painting means spending my time in museums or with my nose in a reference book. I conduct research\, of course\, but my secret to successfully representing cultures from yesterday is to draw inspiration from people of today. To that end\, I rely on both visual input from models and narrative input from stories by people who have experience with traditional life ways. \n“My paintings of historic Native American cultures offer a glimpse into yesterday: You can see what people wore\, what tools and weapons they used\, or what activities they undertook in their daily lives.”   \nApache model LeAnn Murphy says of James\, “Your work makes me proud of my heritage—even when I see a painting from a culture that isn’t my own.
