Meet contemporary oil painter, Cara Pabst Moran, during the opening reception of her show in Downtown Santa Fe

Cara Pabst Moran grew up immersed in the art world as the daughter of renowned landscape painter Charles H. Pabst. She earned a B.A. in Art History from Arizona State University, where she deepened her understanding of cultural contexts and artistic traditions . While studying the genius of master artists, she also apprenticed with acclaimed contemporary artist Beth Ames Swartz, whose expressive use of color and form greatly influenced her evolving aesthetic. Cara resides in Phoenix, where she balances her studio practice with raising her children, whom she credits as her greatest source of inspiration.

Her signature style marries contemporary Impressionism with Modern Fauvist sensibilities. She employs bold, clean colors applied with palette knives in thick impasto to create dramatic, textured surfaces that dance across the canvas. Cara describes her process as instinctual and visceral—“smearing a palette knife piled with bright green onto a juicy pink is a huge rush for me”—highlighting the emotional freedom and vitality she captures in her work.
