On an extended summer vacation to Hawaii in 1971 he fell in love with surfing, and it has continued to be his life's passion. He has surfed all over the world.
\r\nSince 1988 he has owned and operated Vince Broglio Glassworks, one of the premier surfboard fiberglassing businesses in the Monterrey Bay area.
\r\nIn 2005, he began experimenting with the use of resin and fiberglass as an artistic medium. Vince Broglio's resin sculptures and free-form bowls are created from the recycled resin and fiberglass materials used in his glassing facility. Like the waves of the sea, each resin sculpture and bowl is one of a kind.
\r\nThe layering of many coats of resin in different colors results in a composition that has qualities of translucence and opacity. These unique pieces evoke contrasting elements of fluidity and solid mass, of tranquility and power. Vince's artistry is revealed in his resin sculptures and bowls that delight the eye as they reflect and absorb light, much like the sea itself.
\r\nVince Broglio makes his home in Santa Cruz, CA.

\r\nProcess of work:
\r\nSculptures:
\r\nWhen I glass surfboards the excess resin drips from them and is collected. These layers of colored resin build up over a long period of time, it takes about two years, or approximately 1,000-1,200 surfboards to have enough resin for a series of sculptures. When I have accumulated the large resin block I cut it into pieces and then sculpt each piece to be unique. The resin is solid, much like rock.
\r\nBowls:
\r\nEach bowl is free-formed, these vessels have a lot of movement to them. I make the \"basic\" shape using one layer of fiberglass, when I have the shape I like I layer on colored resin that I custom mix for each bowl. After I build them to the thickness I want I sculpt them and add my final color work. Shells or waves are usually the inspiration for my bowls.
