She has no face,
which symbolizes the egalitarian society of the Hopi people. She represents a people, not an individual. The Hopi thought is: One Mind, one Body and one Spirit.
Near the spring solstice, the Dawa (or Sun) comes to each village to awaken the Kachinas and let them know that he is rising higher in the sky. With this, the sun brings the promise to the Hopis that the kachinas will once again return to dance.
The Sun is the Father of all creation, and as he rises in the eastern sky, he gathers the prayers of all people. At dusk he will take the prayers to the other world to be heard.
