Her technique was first cultivated by painting portraits of people who touched her life. In 1983, she had the unique opportunity of developing her technique abroad, traveling throughout Europe and Israel, and training in the shadow of the masters. These artists taught her how to incorporate a multi-layering technique, giving the subject of her oil paintings - through depth, color, translucency and detail - a look of realism.
Later, Nance trained under German artist and finisher Karl-Heinz Meschbauch as well as Santa Fe artist Armond Lara. Upon completing her training, Nance began a decorative painting business in 1992. From 1992 to 2007, Nance was commissioned to paint throughout the United States, applying and developing the training she had received from across the globe. In 2007, her life took a dramatic turn following an accident that left her with a severe spinal injury. This accident, became a great blessing in her life as it allowed her to gain a deeper appreciation for the beauty of nature as it is seen with the naked eye. This new-found appreciation soon translated into her artwork, influencing her artistic philosophy.
Today, Nance's passion for art comes from the perfection of creation. She strives to convey the beauty of the world as she sees it -through her paint brush, to the canvas, and finally to the wall of someone's home. Nance changes the expression of her art according to the ever-changing world, ceaselessly striving to capture in a single stroke of the brush - nature's wondrous mystery.
